Service 06

Fault Finding

Rapid response fault diagnosis on PA, voice alarm and intercom systems — from any manufacturer, including legacy and discontinued platforms. Specialist test equipment, deep system knowledge, and a structured diagnostic methodology to find the root cause fast.

Whether the fault is a single zone reporting a wiring fault or an entire control rack offline, our engineers have the experience to identify the root cause, propose a permanent fix, and (where required) provide an immediate workaround to keep the building protected.

Coverage: Any Manufacturer · Legacy & Current
Response: Same-Day for Critical Faults
Diagnostics: TDR · Loop Impedance · Network Analysis
Output: Root-Cause Report
Common Issues

What We Diagnose

01
Loudspeaker Circuit Faults

Short circuits, open circuits, earth faults, impedance mismatches and end-of-line failures — located to the metre using time-domain reflectometry where required.

02
Amplifier & Controller Failures

Power-supply faults, channel failures, configuration corruption, firmware mismatches, and hardware failures within VACIE racks.

03
Intelligibility Drop-Off

Areas where STI has fallen below the BS 5839-8 target — investigation of EQ, zone overlap, ambient noise, loudspeaker positioning and tap settings.

04
Network & SIP Issues

Audio dropout, paging-call setup failures, registration loss, latency, and bandwidth contention on IP-based PA platforms. Wireshark trace analysis where needed.

05
Battery & Standby Faults

Failed standby capacity tests, charger faults, end-of-life battery banks — diagnosed and replaced with EN 54-4 compliant alternatives.

06
Interface & Cause-Effect Faults

Misrouted cause-and-effect, fire-alarm interface failures, BMS integration issues, and intermittent device behaviour — reproduced, diagnosed, and resolved.

How We Work

Diagnostic Methodology

Stage 1
Initial Triage

Phone or remote-link triage with the building’s on-site contact — capturing fault symptoms, recent events, and any panel indications.

Stage 2
Site Investigation

On-site engineer with calibrated test equipment — logical fault isolation through the signal chain, with records of every measurement.

Stage 3
Root-Cause Identification

Confirmed root cause with evidence — not just a symptom workaround. If the fault is intermittent, monitoring left in place to capture the next occurrence.

Stage 4
Repair & Re-Test

Permanent repair, full functional re-test of the affected zone, and an updated commissioning entry in the system log book.
